Mr. MM (Midwest Momma), aka my better half, makes me feel special and loved day in and day out. He provides me with affection and praise that make me feel valuable and not taken for granted. As I have said before, I am #oneluckylady. I know not everyone is that fortunate. I try to do the same in return and I think because of that Valentine’s Day is not of as much meaning to us. We don’t do a Valentine’s date and he doesn’t get me any of the stereotypical Valentine’s Day gifts. It’s a good place to be.
Over the last couple of years, I have transitioned into trying to gift Mr. MM experiences rather than things. He has most everything that he wants already. If I gift him something it is usually something that I want him to want, not something he really wants (like the multiple pairs of trendy shoes he got for Christmas that he will only wear on occasion to placate me).
The Gift of an Experience
Some ideas of experience gifts that I have come up with are tickets to an event, such as a baseball or basketball game, or in our case a Supercross Race. Also a gift card for track time at an indoor gokart track like K1 Speed or a similar establishment. Maybe your guy is into golf and you could gift him a lesson or a golf outing at his favorite course? Or maybe he has a favorite band that you could get him tickets to one of their concerts?
A lot of the experience options are things that you could do with your other half, but don’t rule out things that he could do on his own or with some friends. I think it in our natural wheelhouse as women to think of this holiday as one that has to include personal attention and being together. It takes a confident woman to think independently and choose what will be most appreciated by her other half. In my case it is that extra personal attention that is most appreciated by Mr. MM; a touch on my way by or a sincere kiss and ‘I love you’ that are not done out of habit, but are heartfelt.
Valentine’s Day Gifts for Him
In case you are more traditional in your gifting, here are a few ideas that I would want my other half to like and appreciate. (Way to be on the ball on giving gift suggestions before the holiday, right?!) I had to really refrain myself from buying one of these watches. I’ve been seeing them in my feeds a lot lately and I really like him. However, it would be one of those things that I want him to want, not something that he actually wants. Mr. MM hasn’t wore a watch in years. The #practicalman thinker he is sees no reason to wear a watch when he has his phone with him at all times.
