Signs of spring are starting to pop up here in Central Illinois. The geese are returning in droves and I’ve heard the kill deer are making appearances as well. We’ve had several days of sunshine in a row and the temperatures have been in the mid-50’s. It’s pretty exciting! With just a few days left until we enter the month of March I am to the point of not being able to wait any longer. It was time to break out the spring decor. I hope you enjoy a glimpse of our home through this spring home tour.
New Season, New Look
Beyond the change being refreshing the simplicity of spring decor, as compared to Christmas/winter decor, is also a breath of fresh air. Christmas decor is more abundant and over the top. The simplicity of spring decor just makes me feel lighter, less weighed down.
Although I reuse decorations from one year to the next I always change up how they are styled – different locations and different groupings. I usually add a few new elements that I can’t resist after checking out the decor sections at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. I haven’t made it into town to take a peek yet this year, but after working on my spring vignettes here and there around the house I know I’ll have to make a run to fill in some sparse areas.
I’ve gained a lot of inspiration/knowledge over the last couple of years from Yvonne at Stone Gable. She styles some amazing vignettes. If you are looking for some extra spring decorating inspiration her blog is definitely a great place to start! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the little snippets of spring that have cropped up around our home.
The Kitchen
Tucked in the corner of the kitchen is this cute vignette. I love using cake stands to add height and dimension to a vignette, as well as different materials to lend a variety of textures. The tall and short cake stands, the knobby milk glass vase and the faux poppies were bought at Magnolia Market last February when we were in Waco (Ft. Worth, actually, but close enough to not pass up a chance to visit Magnolia Market!). The honey bee jug and the tiny bunny are flea market finds (#lovemeafleamarket). The rest of the kitchen is kept simple – fresh and tidy.
The Dining Table
I made the pallet wood ‘tray’ that holds this vignette a few years back. It gets moved around the house throughout the year and styled in different ways, but the dining room table is my favorite home for it. I’ve incorporated some blue into this grouping with the blue and white cloth napkins. Also, the fresh, ‘new growth’ green is strong throughout my spring decor. The tulip stems you see here can be bought from Magnolia Market, but I bought mine from Etsy for a fraction of the price last year. A lot of them are coming out of China though so pay attention to the delivery date. I was not interested in waiting 3-4 weeks to receive them last year when I was looking to get them bought and in the midst of decorating for spring. Something else about them… they smell like onions! It took me a while to figure out where the smell was coming from last year. I can still notice it this year if I stick my nose right in them, but otherwise it is not noticeable.
The Living Room
I switch my throw pillows out with the seasons. Some are solid neutrals that stay year round, but the pops of color change. I was ready to bring these navy blue pillows out. I love the fresh, crisp feel they add to the space.
Old books are one of my weaknesses. I use them in so many places to add height, dimension and texture to a vignette that I buy them whenever I find them for a good price.
I struggle with how to style our TV console with that gargantuan television above it. The TV barely clears the console, so placing anything on the top of the console usually gets in the way of the TV. I was excited to come up with the idea to use the pots on the console. I love the gray tones and the texture of the pots, I love the variation in sizes and I love that sweet little house in place of where a pot ‘should’ be. I think it adds a lot of character. What do you think? Do you have any suggestions of low-profile decorations that would fit below the TV?
Again, spring calls for simplifying decor in our home. I love the crisp, clean feel of the styling on this sofa table.
The Foyer
This beauty of an entry table was one of my flea market finds. It was love at first sight. I believe it was used as a work bench, possible by a mechanic with how greasy and grimy it was (is). I used it as a work bench myself for a year or two. Then this space opened up in our home and I was excited to move this baby inside. My husband was shocked that I didn’t repaint it first. Isn’t she perfect just the way she is? The library ladder and the giant dough bowl were also found at flea markets, as was the horse statue and the galvanized bucket. Have I told you how much I love flea markets?!
That’s it for now! I hope you enjoyed the tour and found some inspiration for your own spring decorating. If you enjoy reading about home decor updates check out this post on my master bedroom refresh. If you want to save this post for later reference here’s an image to pin!
It’s still hard to see the foyer without the huge fish tank, but I love what you have done with it and it feels more like what should be there!
I agree! It’s much more fun to style from season to season and much less work than the fish tank too!
I had the sane problem under my TV I have a 48” long rustic sugar mold that fit perfectly. I think it’s from Magnolia Market too!
That’s a good idea! I love those too:)
