Styling Gingham

I have fallen in love with gingham over the last couple of years, finding more and more ways to style it so that I can wear it all year long.  When I had first added it into my wardrobe it felt like a fall style to me.  But with a little creativity on what you pair it with it can easily be worn year round. #Win! I’ve broken this post down by the season that each outfit combination fits best into, but there is a lot of overlap and most can be worn into other seasons as is or with some minimal tweaking.

Gingham for Spring

I am SO ready for spring.  Mother Nature has been a little cruel here in Illinois.  We sat through a four hour track meet in barely above freezing temps with the wind whipping and a cold dampness in the air four days ago, then woke to snow three days ago.  Yesterday was terribly windy, making the cold cut to the bone.  Today there was hope though.  We reached the mid 40’s and saw some sunshine and we are supposed to be in for some mid-50’s temps in the next couple of days (fingers crossed).

The navy and green (khaki/olive green) combination is one I have been seeing more of lately and I am completely on board with.  There are a couple things in this outfit combination that juxtaposition themselves well.  First you have the preppy gingham top against the distressed denim, followed by the pearl necklace in contrast with the slip-on sneakers.  Its a look that can fit into a lot of different scenarios.

Gingham for Summer

Simplifying the gingham with a pair of plain white shorts really features the gingham in its full glory.  In this outfit I have bookended the look by having the navy blue in the top, as well as my shoes to bring it together in one cohesive look.  These shoes are super comfortable too.  I own them in three different colors.

Gingham for Fall

This styling option is a power combo.  It embodies preppy style, is classy, put together and on trend.  It makes me feel like I am on top of things and can conquer anything.  Crazy right, how an outfit can do that? I’m good with it though.  There are days that we all need a little help feeling on top of things and if a good outfit can do that for us, thank the heavens!

Gingham for Winter

Ditch the puffer vest and this look could easily be a spring or summer look as well.  Throw on a pair of Converse sneakers to easily dress it down.  As is this combination offers a practical winter look with full shoes to keep your feet warm and the cozy puffer vest to keep the wind out.  You could also switch out the booties to riding boots for the extra cold days and switch out the white jeans for a darker pair on the wet days.  Like I said, so many options!

I’ve seen some darling summer dresses in the gingham print that I have been eyeing…  Do you have any gingham in your wardrobe?
