The Outfit

This is a versatile outfit, as it can be worn for events that range from day to day tasks to a ladies’ lunch date to a semi-dressy date night. The boots are extremely comfortable, with having only a 2.75″ block heel they can be worn all day without discomfort and the awkward gate that can come at the end of the day with taller heels is avoided.  The leggings are of fantastic quality.  They are thick (meaning not transparent), hold their shape through multiple wears, wash without pilling or fading and the wide waist band ensures there is no unsightly muffin-top on display. The tunic length sweater is a great color for fall and winter and the length is perfect to ensure no girly bits are exposed when wearing leggings.  Rose gold has become my favorite color recently and the dainty nature of the necklaces makes them a good choice to compliment the neckline of the sweater.

The Blog

I have been dreaming up the creation of this blog for several months.  Taking mental notes of other blogger’s posts that I found interesting/beneficial, deciding on a name for my little speck on the web (and then having to come up with another and another because so many are already taken), working on the design and layout of the blog, defining how my blog will set itself apart from the bajillion other fashion blogs, noting successful blogger’s content, pictures, pins, etc and trying to figure out how to emulate parts of them to create a successful blog of my own.  Trying to educate myself on blog SEO and the use of social media to propel a blog to success.  I have been brainstorming ideas for blog topics and have quite a list established.  But the first blog post, what should the very first post be about?  Is there a right or wrong answer to that question?

I have been sitting on my hands for the past couple of weeks, afraid to write this first post.  Afraid that I will “do it wrong.”  I am a self-driven, competitive person.  I want every move I make to be the right move. I’ve searched Google and Pinterest trying to find the answer to what this first post is ‘supposed’ to be about.  I have not been successful in finding that answer.  What I have found repeatedly though is the reassurance from many other bloggers that what needs to happen is to “just start” and that “not many people will ever read your first blog post.”  I am going to take solace in that and move forward.

My Love of Fashion

That seems like a logical place to start.  I do love fashion!  Not runway style fashion, but a clean, fresh look.  Fashion that ‘normal’ people wear or at least would like to wear.  A put together look.  My closet, which is actually the smallest closet in our house, is stuffed to the gills (soon I will be undertaking a closet renovation…of sorts – can’t wait to share that with you!). My gracious husband is accepting of my shopping addiction.  He does tease me and sometimes fauns annoyed when a package arrives in the mail on an almost daily occurrence.  I find joy in putting my ‘mom style’ twist on the looks and trends that come and go and believe I will find even greater joy in being able to share that with others.

Keeping It Real

I’ve done my share of research on fashion blog photography as well – posing, lighting, tripods, etc.  But let me tell you, none of it prepared me for actually doing it.  I thought it would be easy.  Those lovely ladies I have been following make it look so effortless.  They look chic, careless even.  Well, let me tell you, not the case for this Momma.  I’m sure it will get easier as I gain confidence and am able to become comfortable with the process, but it may be a bumpy road for a bit.  The wonderful Mr. MM is willing to help me out (which he did for the first go at it), but I think I may be better off with a tripod and the reassurance that not another soul is witnessing the process!  I’m telling you, I feel like a giant PHONY!  GIANT, I say.  I actually had a bit of an anxiety attack going into taking this first set of pictures and worked myself up to tears (pathetic, I know).  Also, FYI, it was Fa-REEZING outside when these pictures were taken, like negative ten degrees freezing! (#IamCommitted)  In the spirit of ‘Keeping It Real’ some of those first shots are showcased in this post – awkward and uncomfortable in their full glory.  I am after all, just an everyday Midwest Momma.  Enjoy:)
