Shop My Closet

Hi Guys!  Due to some technical difficulty (glitchy rural internet) this post is coming to you 12 hours behind schedule.  So instead of starting off with ‘Good Morning!’ how about ‘Good Evening!’  I hope you had a great day and are now settling into your weekend.  I’m happy its Friday and I am bringing you my weekly Shop My Closet post.

It’s been an extremely productive week on the Hummel homestead.  Between our two summer interns arriving and our three kids having their first full week home from school we have been able to accomplish a lot on the show barn/show string front.  I can tell that we are going to have our most productive summer ever and it feels good!

Today ended up being super stressful for me, starting with a 4:30 am phone call about problems with getting a couple kittens sent to their new homes.  I was able to get them rebooked on an afternoon flight, but that meant a second trip to the airport, a long and painful check-in process and lots of traffic coming home.  Glad to be through it and on the downside.

Still quite a bit of work left to be done this evening though, since I was to, at and from the airport most of the day.  We are leaving at 3:30 in the morning to attend a livestock show in Indiana tomorrow and still have a lot to do to pack up and get the animals ready.  It’s going to be a late night… or in reality a sleepless night that rolls right into getting everything done that needs done to loading livestock and hitting the road.  Oh boy!

This next week we will be focusing on getting our landscaping freshened up.  Over the last few years we have slowly lost plants and we will be gathering and replacing those plants this next week.  It will be a pretty big undertaking.  Our ‘yard’ is almost five acres.  We have the house and three other buildings with landscaping that surrounds them, as well as eight large landscape islands scattered throughout the yard.

We will also be making a very quick trip to Texas, flying in Wednesday morning, driving like mad to make it to visit four breeders before we lose daylight, then back to the airport for an early morning flight home on Thursday.  Always in search of that genetic piece that will make our livestock better!  Keep your fingers crossed that this will prove to be a fruitful trip.

Here’s the recap of what I wore this week with links to where you can buy everything.  For reference, I am 5’2” and weigh about 105 pounds.  I wear an XS or a 0-2 and a 25/26 in jeans.  If there is an petite option I will often go that route for the shorter length.

I have been living in this cozy raglan sleeved sweatshirt since I got it a little over a week ago.  By the end of every night I’ve settled into it as I finish my desk work.  I am always cold in the air conditioning and this sweatshirt is a perfect addition for throwing on to stay warm.  My 16 year old daughter told me on our shopping day last week that she wanted to find a sweatshirt like this.  Not that I want to dress like a teeny-bop, but I was glad to hear that I was wearing something that was ‘cool enough’ for her to wear.  I apologize for the poor image quality in this picture.  We were losing daylight when the picture was taken so the image is grainy.

I’ve decided that this jewel toned green is one of my favorite colors and I especially love it paired with navy blue.  This top is old, but I tried to find some that were similar color to link for you.  These shorts are from last year, but Express is still stocking them this year.  They do stretch out with wear, so if in question on the size I would recommend sizing down.

This blue and mustard combination are great complimentary colors.  I added these shorts to my closet a couple weeks ago and am really happy that I did.  I have the waistband rolled down once to adjust the length of them so they work better for my petite frame.  These shoes were one of my purchases from our girl’s shopping day on Sunday.  Another great buy.  I wasn’t 100% sold on them, but they were the best I found for a quick slip-on sandal that was slightly dressy.  I’ve already worn them a couple of times this week and now I am totally sold on them.  They are easy, cute and classy.

I was excited to style this peplum tee that I have been contemplating adding to my closet for a couple of months now.  It’s super cute, easy and laid back.  Throwing on the earrings and necklace and pairing it with these pink slip-on espadrille sneakers helped to elevate it from t-shirt status to casual chic.

Relying on a closet staple here.  This Madewell tank is super flattering and comfortable.  The last time I wore it I did notice that my bra straps showed in the back because of how the armhole slightly cuts into the back so this time I wore a bra that crossed in the back.  This cargo skirt is old, but I linked a couple new versions.
